Panda Plant Care Guide

Environment

Panda Plants prefer bright locations with some direct sun. They adapt well to average home conditions and make excellent windowsill plants.

Light

Bright light with some direct sun is ideal. South or west-facing windows are perfect. Insufficient light causes leggy growth and faded coloration.

Temperature

Prefers temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Protect from temperatures below 40°F (4°C).

Watering

Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly but infrequently, about once every 3-4 weeks, less in winter. The fuzzy leaves are prone to rot if they get wet, so water at the soil level.

Humidity

Tolerates dry air very well. No need for additional humidity measures.

Fertilizing

Minimal fertilizer needed. Apply a diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer. Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter.

Care Tips

  • Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix.
  • Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.
  • Avoid wetting the fuzzy leaves when watering to prevent rot.
  • Propagate easily from leaf cuttings - allow cut end to callus before placing on soil.

Common Problems

  • Soft, mushy stems or leaves indicate overwatering and possible rot.
  • Shriveled leaves may indicate underwatering.
  • Leggy growth with increased space between leaves indicates insufficient light.
  • Mealybugs can hide in the fuzzy leaf surface - treat with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab.

Seasonal Care

Spring

Growth accelerates - a good time for repotting if needed.

Summer

Maintain regular watering schedule. Rarely flowers indoors.

Fall

Gradually reduce watering as growth slows.

Winter

Water sparingly, only when leaves show slight wrinkling.
