Peace Lily Care Guide

Environment

Peace Lilies prefer warm, consistent environments away from drafts. They make excellent bathroom plants due to their love of humidity and ability to thrive in lower light.

Light

Thrives in low to medium indirect light. Can tolerate fluorescent lighting, making it perfect for offices. Too much direct sunlight will scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Prefers temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Watering

Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Peace Lilies will dramatically droop when thirsty, but recover quickly after watering.

Humidity

Enjoys high humidity (50-70%). Mist regularly or place on a humidity tray to increase moisture levels.

Fertilizing

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 6-8 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or eliminate fertilizing in fall and winter.

Care Tips

  • Peace Lilies are excellent communicators - they droop visibly when they need water.
  • Remove yellow leaves at the base to encourage new growth.
  • Trim spent flowers at the base to encourage more blooming.
  • Repot every 1-2 years or when roots become crowded.

Common Problems

  • Brown leaf tips often indicate low humidity or fluoride in tap water - try using filtered water.
  • Yellow leaves may signal overwatering or too much fertilizer.
  • Lack of flowers usually means insufficient light.
  • Green flowers that don't turn white indicate too much light.

Seasonal Care

Spring

This is when most flowering occurs. Increase watering slightly as growth accelerates.

Summer

Keep consistently moist and increase humidity if in air-conditioned spaces.

Fall

Gradually reduce watering as growth slows.

Winter

Water less frequently but don't allow to completely dry out.
