Snake Plant
The Snake Plant (Sansevieria) is one of the most low-maintenance green plants available. It thrives in almost any light condition and helps remove toxins from the air, making it perfect for bedrooms and offices.
Snake Plant Care Guide
Environment
Snake Plants are incredibly adaptable and can thrive in a wide range of environments. They're perfect for offices, bedrooms, and living spaces with varying light conditions.
Light
Tolerates low light to bright indirect light. Can handle some direct sun, but best in indirect light conditions.
Temperature
Thrives in normal room temperatures between 60-85°F (15-29°C). Can tolerate temperature fluctuations better than most houseplants.
Watering
Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially in winter - about once every 2-6 weeks depending on conditions. Overwatering is the most common issue.
Humidity
Tolerates dry air very well. No need for additional humidity measures.
Fertilizing
Feed with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at quarter strength once or twice during the growing season (spring and summer).
Care Tips
- Use well-draining soil, ideally a cactus or succulent mix.
- Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.
- Clean leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust.
- Snake plants are slow growers and rarely need repotting - only every 2-5 years.
Common Problems
- Soft, mushy stems indicate overwatering and possible root rot.
- Brown, crispy leaf tips may indicate underwatering or very dry air.
- Pale, bleached leaves suggest too much direct sunlight.
- Pests are rare but watch for mealybugs and spider mites if the plant is stressed.
Seasonal Care
Winter
Reduce watering to once every 6-8 weeks as the plant goes dormant.
