ZZ Plant Care Guide
Environment
ZZ Plants adapt to a wide range of environments and are especially suitable for offices, bedrooms, and areas with limited natural light.
Light
Tolerates low light to bright indirect light. Can survive in offices with only fluorescent lighting. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch leaves.
Temperature
Thrives in normal room temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Can tolerate temperature fluctuations better than most houseplants.
Watering
Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly - about once every 2-3 weeks, less in winter. ZZ plants store water in their rhizomes and are extremely drought-tolerant.
Humidity
Tolerates dry air very well. No need for additional humidity measures.
Fertilizing
Feed with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at quarter strength once or twice during the growing season (spring and summer).
Care Tips
- Use well-draining soil to prevent root rot.
- Choose a pot with drainage holes.
- Clean leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to maintain their glossy appearance.
- ZZ plants are slow growers and rarely need repotting - only every 2-3 years.
Common Problems
- Yellowing leaves usually indicate overwatering.
- Dry, crispy leaf tips may occur in extremely dry conditions.
- Leggy growth suggests the plant needs slightly more light.
- ZZ plants are generally pest-resistant, but watch for scale insects if stressed.
Seasonal Care
Winter
Reduce watering to once a month or less as the plant goes dormant.
